The audit talent market has shifted
Three signals from the last six months of searches that should change how firms position their next opening.

The audit talent market in Texas has moved in three ways over the last six months, and firms writing job descriptions from 2024 templates are quietly losing the top of the funnel.
First: candidates at the senior and manager tiers are declining first-round conversations with firms whose public materials do not describe the audit tech stack. Not the marketing language — the actual stack. Firms still leading with 'innovative culture' and burying the tooling on page four are being screened out before the recruiter call.
Second: the willingness to relocate for an audit role has dropped meaningfully. Roles in Austin and Dallas are still competitive; roles in secondary Texas markets that could pull talent from Houston two years ago now cannot. Firms in those markets need to hire locally or hire remote-first, and the hybrid middle is no longer working.
Third: audit candidates are asking about AI-assisted workpaper review in the first interview at a rate we did not see a year ago. The right answer is not that the firm has solved it. The right answer is that the firm has a position on it. Firms without a position are read as behind, whether they are or not.
